Gabrielle Doutre

Hello my dear friends!

It’s time to meet Gabrielle. She is a photographer, a mother and a very positive person.

It is always challenging to photograph another photographer, but it was easy with her. She has a great personality and it makes everything look fun and easy.

Without further ado, I invite you to read the interview and see the pictures taken as a result.

Could you please tell us something funny about you?

Something funny……Well we could say it’s kind of funny that I am a very shy person in life , usually behind the lens , but with this shooting , I am totally submitted in front of this camera you are holding ! That is funny to me, actually a big challenge.

How and why have your interest in tattoos began??

As long as I can remember I’ve been interested in tattoos ! My projects at high school and college were always around that topic but even earlier than that ….. ( Gosh I hope my mom never reads this) When I was 10 or 11 , I drew the initials of my boyfriend at the time with a razor blade in my skin, pretty intense for that age I know, but that’s me . Still have a scar on my arm from that time. I have always been attracted by scars and tattoos don’t know why. I love art in general and I am fascinated by the fact that the body can endure a certain amount of pain as long as we tell our mind it’s alright ;)

When did you get your first tattoo? What made you do it?

I got my first tattoo at 14. I was hanging out with much older guys at the time , one night  a friend of a friend was tattooing at his place and I could get one and I wanted one so bad so I did it !

How many tattoos do you have right now? What future tattoos would you like to have?

I have 12 tattoos . I want so many more. For sure next one is going to be a nice script saying  freedom, I want a Dali tattoo , I want nice geometric designs in red ink . I want too many ! As long as there is blank skin on my body i will keep going. It’s a passion.

Do any of your tattoos help you in any way? Do they give you inner power? Or do they remind you of something?

Of course ! All of them gives me inner power . The power of not be ashamed of my body , be proud of my choices and of who I am.  Since I have no self confidence at all , I cover my body with ink , this way we see more of it than we see of me so I feel I’m kind of hiding behind them. One is helping me through rough times,  I can always count on my little angel :)  And they all remind me of what I was going through in my life at the moment I got them.

What is the most important tattoo for you?

The one in my lower back, it says destiny. Destiny is what I believe in. Everything happens for a reason. When something happens and I don’t know why or find it difficult , all I have to say to myself is that everything is going to be alright. Trust life. The answers will come later .

How do people react when they see your tattoos? Do you have a funny story about this that you want to share?

People react with surprise just in their look when they see my tattoos or find out that I have so many since I am so little and cute and seem so young. It was funny the first time I went to see my massage therapist , she was discovering my tattoos one after the other and was saying wow each time.  And then every time I go, before we start she ask me if I got one more since last time!

Do you want to change any of your tattoos?

Unfortunately yes. Half of my ink wasn’t done by a professional tattoo artist. So right now I have five that I would like to be covered.

Who is your favorite tattoo artist?

Michaël Cloutier and Luka Lajoie , both working at the same studio : Artrock in Repentigny. I got my latest piece by Michaël at the Québec art and tattoo show :)

What would you say to someone who is not really sure about having a tattoo but wants one?

I would ask the person what makes him or her hesitate. Then from that , you talk to  people , ask questions to tattoo artists , to clients , go to a shop , look at the process , read on the subject. TAKE YOUR TIME ! The ink is gonna stay forever in your skin , choose wisely your design and tattoo artist in the first place so you don’t have any regrets. If you are not ready for some reason , just don’t do it . Yes , don’t make the same mistake I did !
